mirror1.slackadelic.com is alive!

Mar 03, 2008 in Linux

Courtesy of acidchild from ##slackware on freenode, once again this mirror is coming back live. It will be a Slamd64 and Slackware mirror. Give it time to finish syncing everything and then have fun.

This mirror will provide http/ftp/rsync communications. Rsync and HTTP are working; we are working on FTP at the moment, but should be up and running in no time.

Pidgin ignorant about Slackware?

May 11, 2007 in Linux, Slackware

Ya know, I love Gaim and have for a long time. I was quite upset to find out that they had been locked in a legal battle with AOL for quite a few years. When they finally came to an agreement they had to change the name to Pidgin. Now I use their new-named IM client. Love it.

However, I was just informed about something on their web site that shocked me. If you read this you will see what I’m speaking of. As a Slackware user I do take a bit of offense to this. I mean ignorance is one thing, but having no clue at all is even worse. “several of us actively dislike that distribution for its history of broken installs, as well as for its non-existant package management.” Ok, I’m confused… right before you said that you stated, ” We have no developers using Slack…” so, If I’m confused you will understand, hopefully.

Where is your proof of broken installs? Which packages are “broken?” Stating non-existant package management is just BS. I mean, how the heck would you know? You don’t even use the distribution. Oh, that’s right, I forget you have a friend who knows a friend.. who knows this guy.. who dated this girl.. who’s brother’s dad’s cousin twice removed used Slackware eons ago and that was what he said.

*BONK* Clue stick!

By the way, if you want to rant to someone call these guys: http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/DeveloperPages

UPDATE: They’ve changed the text. Only after receiving a barrage of emails and from people complaining about it in #pidgin on freenode.net

Slamd64.com server issue

Oct 16, 2006 in Linux, Slamd64

Most of you already know, but the server that slamd64.com is hosted on is having some “issues” to say the least. Fred is in the process of moving everything to the new server and we are testing it as I type this. The new DNS should be in effect in about 6 hours. So far, everything looks goooooood.

Mirrors needed!

Oct 02, 2006 in Linux, Slamd64

Ok, most of you know that I help out quite a bit with the Slamd64 project. I’m working on getting some more bandwidth/disk space for more mirrors. Now, we really need a UK mirror, but mirrors in other countries are welcome as well. Preferrably something with high bandwidth. If you think you can help, hit me up at the email at the bottom of this page. As always, thanks to everyone who helps with the Slamd64 project.

Slamd64 mirror

Jun 16, 2006 in Linux, Slamd64

Thanks go to skac from ##slackware on freenode for donating space on one of his servers for me to host a nice Slamd64 mirror. The mirror is located at mirror.slackadelic.com and has http/ftp/rsync protocols ready to be used.
