slackwaregallery.com domain name = snagged!

Apr 26, 2007 in Misc.

Well, the owner of this domain failed to renew it; that may be because he’s in Iraq, but we won’t pull hairs on this one. Basically, some idiot-dumbass domain squatter got the domain. I’ve setup http://gallery.slackadelic.com for the time being. Hopefully, they can figure something out.

Virginia Tech shooter = Coward

Apr 18, 2007 in Misc.

Yeah.. that’s right. He’s a coward. How else can you describe him? Lets see, he mails a video to NBC that alleges that we all had “100 billion changes” to avoid what happen. Ok, so you blame everyone but yourself? Bullshit.

What you did was premeditated. You killed 30+ people in cold blood; none of which were armed, then shot yourself.

If there is a Hell, you are on the express elevator.

Here’s my contribution to you:

Possible IP address change

Apr 18, 2007 in Misc.

I’ve heard through the grapevine that the IP subnet that this server is on is going a way.  I wanted to let everyone know that once the IP changes I’ll get DNS reconfigured and updated and then from there we’ll just have to wait for the updates.  Once I know the IP address, I’ll post it on here.

linuxpackages.net intentionally malicious

Apr 11, 2007 in Misc.

Yeah, this is quite interesting and has caused a some-what uproar in the Slackware community. It has been brought to my attention that the administrators of linuxpackages.net had intentionally put a package in ISOs that were not officially offered by their own site.

This is the original text that was in the WARNING file:

Standard information here. We take no reponsiblity for what any of these
packages may do. They are checked but for only minor things. As with any
software you download you should check it very well before installing it.

Also if you have downloaded an ISO of this archive from a P2P network or
purchased it from a source other than Linuxpackages be warned there is
a package included in the archive that will remove all the files from your
HD and yes we put it there to prevent unauthorized mirrors and leeches
that try and make money off of the hard work of many without giving them
credit.
These ISO’s that are out there are not authorized by us and should not
be trusted. The archive is available for purchase from us or you can
download the packages from authorized mirrors. To see the list go to
http://www.linuxpackages.net/mirrors.php

LinuxPackages.net

Funny thing is, that has been since removed and I found this copy here.

This is just a bit disturbing to quite a few people.  I mean, come on, this is totally reckless, immoral, and coming from a site who claims to be professionals, ridiculous.

I really don’t care if they have removed this text or not, that does not mean it didn’t happen and doesn’t guarantee that this practice has been terminated.

I don’t know about you, but that makes my utterly sick.  Screw ‘em!
