Slackadelic.com

I owe a huge thanks to Fenix-Dark from #slackman on freenode. He donated an Athlon64 3500+ Venice processor and a stick of 256MB Hynix RAM. Thanks to his donation and help with research on a new motherboard, hard drive, and RAM I was able to follow through with this upgrade. Could not have done it with out his donation. I also would like to thank everyone of #slackman on freenode for their general support and help when I’ve run into issues in the past and in the present. You guys have been quite helpful.

The first upgrade attempt of slackadelic.com did not go as well as I planned. So, I’ve ordered a new chassis and a new hard drive. I will be rebuilding slackadelic.com and migrating data from the existing server over to the new server at home where I’ll be tweaking it.

I will post another informational post here to allow everyone ample time for warning. Keep in mind, that once I say “I’m doing the upgrade tomorrow, don’t save/update anything on the server after such and such a time” then don’t. As I will make a full backup of everything at that time to pull to the new server. Anything updated after that certain time will be lost. Keep that in mind.

Update: I’ve received all of the parts needed to get the box built. I will be working on that tonight and trying to get everything tweaked. I would like to get the swap done sometime Tuesday or Wednesday. I will keep you posted here.

Update2: Ok, I’ve gotten the machine built and I’m in the process of getting everything reconfigured. Doing the kernel at this point and will be moving a backup over soon to do a test configuration to be sure everything is working. There is a strong possibility that I will do the upgrade late tonight. Keep watching.

Update3: I’ve done a full backup from about 10 – 15 minutes ago at around 8:45 pm EST. Any updates after this time to any portion of slackadelic.com will be lost after the upgrade. This is a forewarning. If, for some reason, I cannot get the upgrade done tonight, I will pull an incremental backup tomorrow and push everything over to the new server on the fly.

Update4: Ok, its now almost 4am. I think I’ve gotten everything done. I’m having to take the time to upload slackwaregallery.com’s home directory as it is freakin’ huge. It should be backup by morning.

That’s right! The Colts have won Super Bowl XLI by a score of 29 to 17. It was an amazing game to watch.

I have to hand it to the Bears though; they had a game opening touch down that no one expected. Kudos to them, but WAY TO GO COLTS!

That’s right.. more maintanence.  The colocation that this server is hosted in is doing some maintanence on a router on Sunday February 4, 2007.  The window is between 6:30am – 7:00am.  This will affect all services on slackadelic.com as there will be no network communication during that time.
